The Reader Problems Book Tag

I was tagged by the lovely Jackie with fallinlovewiththesoundofwords for the Reader Problems Book Tag.  Thanks for the tag!!! ❤ ❤ ❤

1.) You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

Typically… I pick somewhere around 5 books around the beginning of each month that stands as my TBR for that given month.  I try my VERY hardest to stick to that…but most of the time I stray.  Hahahahaha

2.) You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?

99% of the time  I will finish the book.  I don’t know why I insist on torturing myself…but I just can’t quit a book.  I have only ever quit reading 2 or 3 books EVER.

3.) The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

I always try.  It doesn’t always mean that I will make it, but I alway try.  The how is simply reading ALL. THE. TIME.  If I’m super far behind, I will keep my book on me at all times so that I can read any time that I have free time.

4.) The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?

It actually doesn’t bother me at all.  The only time that i have purchased another full set is with Harry Potter.  I have 4 British Hardback covers of the Harry Potter books (missing books 1-3), so I bought a US boxed set to have a full complete set of them . Other series I have are pretty mixed as far as different covers, or hard and paperback books.

5.) Every one and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?

Usually the Hubby.  He will let me vent about my dislike/hatred over an overhyped or much loved book.

6.) You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?

I’m not a crier.  I’ve only had 1 book that has made me cry (The Art of Racing in the Rain, by Garth Stein) and I was at home when I was reading it.

7.) A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!?!?! (oh my..calm down)

It depends on how much free time I have at the time or how into the series I am.  If it’s a series that I love, I’ll just re-read the previous books.  If I’m pressed for time, with little to spare for reading, than I will try and find a good review/synopsis for the book online before reading the next one.

8.) Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?

My go to is humor when I’m in a reading slump.  I find a short, funny read that helps kickstart my reading again.  A lot of times, Christopher Moore books are a good cure for this type of slump for me.

9.) There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?

Does this fully answer that question?  I buy at a MINIMUM, 1 book a week!  And that is honestly the MINIMUM!

10.) After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you get to them?

It honestly just depends on how excited for that particular book I am, and sometimes that doesn’t even factor in.  Some books get read immediately, while others will sit on my shelves FOREVER before they are picked up and read.

I want to say a big THANK YOU again to Jackie for tagging me! I’m not going to physically tag anyone since I JUST did a tag post this morning, but if you want to complete the tag PLEASE do and tag me in your post so that I know!

The Liebster Award Tag

Thank you to the lovely Casey at AdoptaBookAUS for nominating me for the Liebster award! Pop over to her Blog and check it out, she’s awesome!!!

This award is a simple way of finding new blogs and getting to know smaller blogs that are out there.  If you’re nominated just take the badge/button above and post it on your blog!

The rules:

  • Acknowledge the blog that nominated you and display the award.
  • Answer 11 question that the blog gives you.
  • Give 11 random facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 5-11 blogs you think are deserving of the award that have less than 200 followers.
  • Let the blogs know you have nominated them.
  • Give them 11 questions to answer.

  • What Author do you own the most books from?
    • Hands down, without a doubt, Stephen King.  He is my ABSOLUTE favorite author and I own close to 30 of his books (including 3 copies of Doctor Sleep: the original one I purchased, the copy he signed, and the UK cover because it’s so pretty)!!!

  • What started you reading?
    • When I was a little girl, my mom hated reading so much that she made me read her my bedtime stories instead of it being the other way around.  She swears that is why I love to read.  Reading is just something that I’ve always enjoyed.  It’s the cheapest, and easiest, way to travel to another place.

  • What started you blogging?
    • Curiosity? I’m not really sure on this one.  I’ve never wanted to be an author, so it’s not like I feel that I need to get my shoe in somewhere, or to have a place to sort out my thoughts.  I think it mostly started with my book reviews.  I do a handful of reviews for a company each month for up and coming authors, and what better way to share them with others?  There have been some amazing books that I’ve read through this review program that didn’t get shared because I didn’t have a place to share them.  At least with a blog, someone else might find them interesting and read the book too.  So I guess you could say my love of books and wanting to share that love.  There are so many good books out there, and I know that often times I wouldn’t know about certain books unless other told me about them.

  • Your favorite fictional couple?
    • Do I have to pick just 1?  If I can only pick 1 I choose Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice for the simple fact that they did not have that love at first sight that seems to be the trend in every book.  Lizzy hated Mr. Darcy, while he simply tolerated her because of her family.  It was a love that grew over time.  A love that he had before her, and one that she denied him up until the very end.  I really liked that about their love story.  If I can pick more than 1… Just kidding…that list could go on for days.  I’m pretty easy to please when it comes to fictional couples!

  • A book you hate that everyone else loves?
    • Twilight, in fact…the whole twilight series!  I admit that I did read them all hoping that they would get better…but they didn’t.  It was like a train wreck that I couldn’t look away from.  I just KEPT.READING. thinking, “surely this will get better!”  Not to hate on Stephanie Meyer though because I absolutely LOVE The Host.  I. Just. Can’t. with Twilight.

  • Books that made you want to throw them across the room (because of anger or feels)?
    • ANY book in the Song of Ice and Fire series (Game of Thrones)!  George R. R. Martin is the absolute WORST!  If you’ve never read these books… STOP reading this answer because it may or may not spoil things for you… that being said, EVERYONE DIES!!!!  Actually let me rephrase that for a second…EVERYONE YOU LOVE DIES FIRST, the ones you hate live on for hundreds of pages, sometimes several books, before they DIE, but in the end…HE KILLS EVERYONE!!!  I literally yell “WHAT THE F?CK???” over and over while reading these books.  I get so angry at times that I have to shut the book, set it down, and take a week or so break to read something happy.  But in the end…I LOVE these books so much.  They just really put me through every emotion while reading them!

  • Favorite book quote?
    • “It’s hard to be wrongfully accused, but it’s worse when the people looking down on you are clods who have never read a book or traveled more than 20 miles from the place they were born.”  -Patrick Rothfuss (The Name of the Wind)

  • Favorite underrated book?
    • I actually have 2 books series for this question.  The first is The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks… if you’ve never read it before and you like reading fantasy, you’re welcome.  The second is David Wellington’s Vampire Series (13 Bullets, 99 Coffins, Vampire Zero, and 23 Hours).  This is not vampires like you’re used to today.  This is vampires in the most gritty and horrifying way.  These are vampires from your childhood nightmares!  I highly recommend reading both Week’s and Wellington’s books.

  • If your house was flooding and you could only fit 5 books into your backpack to save them, what would they be?
    • ONLY 5????  How is this humane???  Gosh….  ok…here goes:
      • My collectible Lord of the Rings book
      • My signed Doctor Sleep book
      • My Folio Society Alice and Wonderland set
      • My cloth bound Dante’s Inferno because it’s BEAUTIFUL.
      • My cloth bound Great Expectations because it too is BEAUTIFUL.

For the record…I think that question fave me anxiety.  That was SUPER hard.  I think I would drown trying to run from shelf to shelf  trying to decide which books to “save.”

Who do you like more: Batman or the Joker? Superman or Spiderman? Iron man or the Hulk?

  • Ok…Batman, Spiderman, Ironman for these reasons…
    • Batman simply because he doesn’t have super powers, he just an angry person with a lot of money.
    • Spiderman because superman just always annoyed me… I honestly don’t care for either…
    • Iron man because he’s played by Robert Downey Jr who ages like a fine red wine! =)

  • What’s your favorite book? *evil cackles*
    • What kind of human being are you?  What book worm has simply 1 favorite book?  What kind of question is this? Ummm…..can I refuse to answer this because we could be here all day.  Are we talking favorite book in each category? Ok, ok…if I can choose only 1 book to be my favorite I would have to pick… So I typed that and then just sat and though for about 5 minutes…so I will pick my top 3:
      • 1. The Shining by Stephen King
      • 2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling (I have only read the first 2 books…don’t shoot me, I’m working through them now)
      • 3. Pen Pal by Dathan Aurbach
    • This was VERY hard to select only 3… I just want to point out that this was an EVIL question! =)

11 Random facts about me:

  1. I have lived in Germany for 7 years and am moving back to America in April.  I’m not even sure that I will know how adjust back to the states.  It’s so different from what we are used to here, but I am super excited to be able to shop on Sundays and to be able to go to Target again.
  2. My absolute favorite thing to eat is soup.  I will eat soup even when it’s 100+ degrees outside.  #sorrynotsorry
  3. I married my best friend when I was 19 and we never looked back.  We have the best relationship and I couldn’t imagine a life without him.

  1. I have 2 dogs and a cat that are like my children (we do not plan on ever having actual children).  We have a 9 year old greyhound/bull terrier rescue named Kesi, a 4 year old rotweiler named Lucien, and a 2 year old munchkin cat named Nike Pharos of Tiny Legs.
  1. I read anywhere between 3 and 8 books a month depending on how many reviews and evaluations I accept.  This month I have 1 evaluation and 2 reviews on my plate so far, and not sure that I will take much more because I have a huge pile that I want to read for fun!
  2. I absolute LOVE to cook, but so does my husband.  Oftentimes we fight over the kitchen or who gets to cook dinner that night.  haha.
  3. Coffee, Wine, and Chocolate are the way to my heart.
  4. My favorite movie that I watch over and over again is The Sweetest Thing.
  5. My favorite T.V. show is Supernatural.

  1. I can’t listen to just 1 type of music, or just 1 band or musician, I have to have a variety.  I have Spotify and just keep a HUGE playlist on shuffle in my car that I update periodically.

The Ultimate Book Tag

For today’s blog I’m going to complete The Ultimate Book Tag.  This tag was created by  Chapter Chicks.  No one tagged me to complete it, but I seen a couple of accounts complete it and really enjoyed it, so I figured I would complete it too! =)

  • Do you get Sick when reading in the car?
    • No, thank God!!!  I have been on WAY too many several hour car rides that would have been horrible without a good book in hand.  What do people do on long car rides if they can’t read?  I mean, what kind of life do they live???
  • Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?
    • I think Chuck Palahniuk’s writing style is so different from any other author’s that I’ve read.  It just comes across so raw and edgy, I mean he wrote Fight Club and Choke if you don’t know who he is.  His books are always so dark and there’s always this twist to them that only he could spin in the way that he does!
  • Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga?  Give 3 Points to defend your answer.
    • Ummm is this EVEN a question?  Harry Potter.  Twilight does not even begin to come close, sorry Twilight fans.  I mean, don’t get me wrong…I read the books.  But the writing is horrible (Sorry Stephanie Meyer).  I LOVED The Host, and I feel like that book redeemed her for me, but the Twilight Saga was just not that great in my opinion.  That being said, Harry FREAKING Potter is amazing!
  • Do you carry a book bag?  If so, what is in it (besides books…)?
    • I do not carry a book bag, but I do almost always have some sort of book on me (whether it be my actual book or my tablet) in my purse.
  • Do you smell your books?
    • Do you not?  It’s a normal thing!  I swear!  Yes, yes I smell my books.
  • Books with or without little illustrations?
    • This one doesn’t matter matter to me.  I do enjoy when a book has beautiful illustrations, but I don’t necessarily need illustration to make a book.
  • What book did you love while reading, but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?
    • Twilight.  I had JUST gotten back into reading again and a friend suggesting that I read the Twilight books.  While reading them, I enjoyed them.  After reading them and reflected back and thought to myself…what the hell did I just spend all that time reading that for?
  • Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!
    • It’s not necessarily a funny story, but when I was little…my mom HATED reading so much (she still does) that she would make me read books to her at bedtime, rather than read me bedtime stories.
  • What is the thinnest book on your shelf?
    • Free Range Chickens by Simon Rich.  It’s freaking hilarious!!!
  • What is the thickest book on your shelf?
    • I think it’s Under the Dome by Stephen King.  I have a hard back copy of it and it’s just HUGE.
  • Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?
    • No. I wish I did, but I don’t.  I tried once and I couldn’t put anything together.  I think that the hardest part is to think of something original with all the fun and exciting things that I’ve read.
  • When did you get into reading?
    • I’ve always been into reading.  After high school, I took a bit of a break from it other than my studying, but I picked it back up and never looked back .
  • What is your favorite classic book?
    • I don’t know that I have a favorite classic.  I have always loved most things Shakespeare, The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, Animal Farm by George Orwell, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
  • In school was your best subject Language Arts/English?
    • Yes.  I was actually in AP English once I got into High School.  I’ve always been really good at writing papers.
  • If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated…what would you do?
    • I would say thank you and later trade it in for something that I hadn’t read before.  There is an amazing used bookstore here in town that gives store credit for books. =)
  • What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to harry potter or the hunger games?
    • I actually recently read a book that was a lot like the Harry Potter series called The Gallery of Wonders by Marc Remus.  I did a review on it for an author and found it to be very similar to the idea of Harry Potter.  It is meant for ages 8-14 and is full of life lessons.  It’s going to be a 6 book series I believe is what I read as well.
  • What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while filming?
    • I say “ummm” and “like” a lot.  I did grow up in Southern California though, so “like” is a huge part of my vocabulary.
  • What is your favorite word?
    • I don’t know that I have a favorite.  I do say “awesome” a lot.
  • Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?
    • I’m definitely kind of a nerd.  I always have my nose buried in a book and I play video games with my hubby from time to time as well.
  • Vampires or fairies? Why?
    • Can I pick both?  I’ve read books with both of them where I’ve liked and disliked both.  If I can only pick one though, I have to say vampires, and not the sparkling Twilight version.  David Wellington wrote a vampire series where vampires are your literal worst nightmare…not something you want as your boyfriend, and it’s awesome.
  • Shape-Shifters or Angels? Why?
    • Again, can I choose both?  Ummm…. Shape-Shifter I guess because they can be anything or anyone!
  • Spirits or werewolves? Why?
    • Werewolves because they are awesome!
  • Zombies or Vampires? Why?
    • Vampires, zombies are mindless human munching machines.  No thank you!
  • Love triangle or forbidden love?
    • Most stories  seem to have a love triangle in them than they do forbidden love, though I have read a couple with forbidden love that are really good.  I think Love triangle though.
  • Full on romance book or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?
    • Action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in.  Full on romance books do 1 of 2 things to me. 1.) They make me feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable while reading them, or 2.) They bore me half to death.

So that is my Ultimate book tag.  Feel free to complete it as well and tag me in it so I can see your answers.  I would love to know your opinions on some of these.  Thanks for reading!  Hope you all are having an awesome week!!!
